The Los Angeles Lakers will host workouts for Tony Snell, a nine-year NBA veteran, and Joe Wieskamp, a second-year NBA guard.
“The Lakers held free-agent workouts with Joe Wieskamp and Tony Snell,” said Shams Charania of The Athletic. “Wieskamp was waived by the San Antonio Spurs out of training camp.”
A few NBA betting websites are now offering the Lakers the 20th-best odds of winning the title in 2023. As they lose more money, sportsbooks continue to lower their odds of winning the title.

“I’m told the expectation is James will be out the next two Lakers games … The Lakers also (recently) held free-agent workouts with Joe Wieskamp and Tony Snell.”

Snell has averaged 6.1 point, 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 601 games. Plus, he’s shot 43.1% from the floor and 39.4% from outside the arc.
The Chicago Bulls selected Snell as the 20th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. In his first season with the Bulls the guard averaged 4.5 ppg and 1.6 boards in 77 games.
Lakers practice NBA veteran Tony Snell, second year guard Joe Wieskamp, while LeBron James rests.
The Bulls traded Snell to Milwaukee Bucks in October 2016. In 80 games, he scored career highs of 8.5, 3.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game during the 2016-17 season.
On March 28, 2016, in the Bucks’ 118-108 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, the guard scored a career-high 26 points in 31 minutes. He shot 10-of-14 (71.4%) from the field, and 4-of-8 (50%) from downtown.
It should be obvious that the Lakers could utilize his perimeter shooting.
In 53 games last season, Snell played for the Portland Trail Blazers as well as the New Orleans Pelicans. He averaged 3.5 points and 1.9 boards, shooting 40.4% from the floor, and 35.2% from the 3-point line.

Lakers 3P% through 11 games this season
Carmelo Anthony’s 3P% in LA last season
But they called Juan Toscano-Anderson in free agency because he was younger🤷‍♂️

In the 2021 NBA Draft, Joe Wieskamp was also selected 41st by the Spurs. The Iowa product averaged 2.1 point per game in 29 games with San Antonio. But he’s still not a bad shooter.
Wieskamp was a rookie and shot 35.7% from the floor, and 32.6% from the long range.
On the other hand, Snell is a pretty good 3-point shooter, so a potential signing makes sense for this struggling Lakers’ team. The front office is looking at all options after the season started with Snell shooting 2-9.
Carmelo Anthony, a veteran of nineteen years, remains a free agent. The 38-year-old forward played last season for the Lakers. Off the bench, he’s a serviceable shooter. L.A. has no choice but to sign Anthony at this point.
